Diego came as a cute 8 months old nighmare into our program. He got dumped by another rescue with a bunch of other Chihuahuas at the county shelter. Diego was not socialized with other dogs or ppl. He was just barking and barking and barking.... His body language told us how much fear he lived in. Always on the go, unsure about every new situation and always one eye open to keep his enviroment under supervision. He would sneak up behind other dogs to scare them or to bite the hind legs then run away to hide under the bed, he growled all the time, not because he was aggressive but because he lived in fear. We did the decision to push him on the hard road and it worked. He went into a foster home with a dog who has more patience then coat, a 4 year old boy and Diego had to deal, on a daily basis, with his personal nightmare, "a husband"! He got brave, he learned how wonderful it is to eat cookies with kids after mommy left the room, he learned how much fun it is to chase birds and cats and he learned everything about the really good treats after he did potty in the yard and not in the shoes anymore... He's come a long way since we took him into our program. His foster family moved away and I took Diego into our home. He left his perfect little world of being the only King and moved into a pack with rules and guidelines... poor Diego.... This kind of life was a totally different expirence for Diego and he learned pretty quick how stupid it is to believe he could be king in a pack with up to 15 dogs.... He is finally doing wonderful with all his doggy friends, he is about 80% housebroken and very well leash and kennel trained. He is still skittish around men but not a runner anymore. A women as caregiver would be wonderful, he bonds very strong with ONE person and he loves to sleep in her lap. His adoption fee is $70 to cover his neuter, vaccines and microchip.
